The King's Feast

The King's Feast: Ready your fork for a culinary cook-off in Highlands

Hank Hill, aka King of the Hill, may be handy on the propane grill, but he’s got nothing on the quartet of chefs primed to compete for the title King of the Mountain on March 17 in Highlands. Top cooks, including Johannes Klapdohr of Madison’s at Old Edwards Inn & Spa, Nicholas Figel of Cyprus International, James Beard Foundation Award nominee John Fleer of Canyon Kitchen, and Mat Kowal of The Gamekeeper’s Tavern, will battle it out Iron Chef-style. Two rounds will narrow the field, and a king will emerge from the third and final cook-off.

Each chef has 40 minutes to plan and prepare a three-course meal, sans his support team. Three judges taste the dishes and determine who wins. The challenges last from 3:30 until about 7:30 p.m., during which time hors d’oeuvres will be served by rising chefs. The evening closes with a four-course wine dinner prepared by the stars of the show, when all can hail the new king.
