Ramsey’s primary instrument is the guitar, but below, he composes a melody on his piano. He began taking lessons at a young age, and was able to improvise his own compositions.
At his home outside of Asheville, Ramsey finds both solace and inspiration for his music in the woods.
Ramsey’s solo work primarily relies on the sounds of an acoustic guitar. When he’s ready to rock, however, Ramsey pulls out his Guild Starfire V, an electric with a semi-hollow, all-mahoghany body.

A family man, Ramsey has two children: a two-year-old son, Elliot (pictured above), and a daughter, Sylvie. Once he and his wife had Sylvie, they purchased some land outside of Asheville, settling down and letting Ramsey take a break from many years on the road with Band of Horses.
In August, Ramsey performed at the inaugural AVLFest, a venue-based music and arts festival that debuted this summer. He played to a crowd of loyal, local fans at outdoor concert hall The Outpost. Photo by Stephan Pruitt/Fiasco Media.
