Farming for donation is an idea that is thriving in WNC. For years, The Lord’s Acre in Fairview (above) has been donating organic vegetables to local charities, and a second Fields of Hope recently opened in Candler.
For the Honeycutts and their volunteers, a day at the farm starts with a group prayer (opposite, top) before the work begins. Grown-ups and children alike pitch in to help plant, tend, harvest, or clean the vegetables. Susie anticipates that, throughout this season, Fields of Hope will have used the help of hundreds of volunteers to supply an estimated 65,000 pounds of vegetables to local food banks.
