Foothills Conservancy // Morganton
The Foothills Conservancy, a nonprofit serving eight counties within the Broad, Catawba, and Yadkin river basins, has preserved over 11,000 acres across Western North Carolina. Volunteers are sought for trail maintenance, tree planting, native gardening, litter cleanups, invasive plant removal, office work, fundraising, and educational events. This fall, in partnership with local nonprofits, they will host community trail workdays in Burke County on September 28 and November 16. (828) 437-9930; foothillsconservancy.org

Beacon of Hope // Marshall
As part of their mission to provide affordable food and household goods, Beacon of Hope hosts their annual golf tournament this September at Mt. Mitchell Golf Club,  featuring 18 holes, a raffle, and a post-game dinner. Volunteers are also needed at the food pantry and thrift store; assisting with tasks such as sorting produce, preparing meat bags, packing boxes, and helping clients, as well as sorting donations, pricing items, and stocking shelves at the thrift store, with shifts available Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (828) 649-3470; bohmarshall.org

Hope Chest for Women // Asheville
Founded in 2003, this Asheville-based charity offers financial relief for medical and non-medical expenses related to breast and gynecological cancer treatments. The Hope Chest for Women seeks volunteers for fundraisers, special events, social media advocacy, newsletters, clerical support, and local fundraising efforts. Additional needs include collecting supplies, assembling chemo care bags, and assisting with their annual October fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness month. (828)-708-3017; hopechestforwomen.org
