This high-tech brewery is rooted in history; the northwestern corner of North Carolina was once known as the Lost Province because of its extreme isolation. Today, the High Country isn’t so remote, but Boone’s newest brewery provides a great escape, complete with wood-fired pizzas and local brews. Pair the Sweet Beet pizza (topped with garlic oil, sweet potatoes, beets, blue cheese, walnuts, rosemary, and honey) with a malty, buttery Homesteaders ESB.

At this new brunch-all-day café, the owners of The Mast Farm Inn show their sultry Southern side in historic Valle Crucis.
