Lost Province Brewing
This high-tech brewery is rooted in history; the northwestern corner of North Carolina was once known as the Lost Province because of its extreme isolation. Today, the High Country isn’t so remote, but Boone’s newest brewery provides a great escape, complete with wood-fired pizzas and local brews. Pair the Sweet Beet pizza (topped with garlic oil, sweet potatoes, beets, blue cheese, walnuts, rosemary, and honey) with a malty, buttery Homesteaders ESB.

At this new brunch-all-day café, the owners of The Mast Farm Inn show their sultry Southern side in historic Valle Crucis. Fill up on tomato cobbler (a savory combination of fresh tomatoes, cheese, and biscuit crust) or a skillet of grits, fresh eggs, Gouda, and tomato butter. Complete the experience with a creamy slice of chocolate chess pie.

Don’t whiz by this adorable café on your way from Brevard to Greenville, South Carolina. If you do, you’ll miss maple- bacon pancakes, huevos rancheros, burgers bedecked with pickled onions, jalapeños, and goat cheese, and prime rib dinners on Friday nights. Locally sourced ingredients elevate the simple fare. Breakfast and lunch are served daily. Dinner happens Thursday through Saturday and features chef’s choice entrées.
