Mountainscape No. 4, 30" x 40", watercolor and ink on canvas
Elizabeth Becker, Burnsville

For more than 25 years, Elizabeth Becker has drawn and painted with watercolors, inks, acrylics, oils, graphite, and charcoal. “I love how watercolors flow, bleed together, and bloom,” she says. “Painting loosely, expressively, and intuitively is...a form of meditation for me, where I come fully into the present moment and let go of control. Experimenting with the medium—not knowing what the results will be—keeps me excited and interested in the process.”

The artist moved to Burnsville from Pennsylvania last year, settling in comfortably amid the local art scene. She now exhibits at Resurrection Studios and Trackside Studios in Asheville’s River Arts District, in addition to maintaining a home gallery. “Nature has always been therapeutic for me and an inspiration for my art; that’s why I was drawn to Western North Carolina,” she says. “I love hiking and meditating on the wild beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Among the mysterious wonders of this area are the sea of rolling clouds that flows through the mountains and the blue haze, that magical natural wonder created by plant life interacting with the atmosphere,” muses the painter, who captures that phenomenon during rhododendron season in Mountainscape No. 4.

Becker, who holds degrees in art education and psychology, also writes children’s books and poetry, including two works published last year: Sheltering Trees and Tide. www.elizabethbeckerart.com
