A new gallery in the River Arts District features the artist’s work in a meticulously created, multisensory environment.Encompassing 2,000 square feet, Jaime Byrd Contemporary Art Gallery is located in the Aura Arts Building in Asheville. As Byrd explains, “This new location is dedicated to exhibiting my larger pieces of artwork along with my multimedia video experience.”

A global traveler thanks to her career as an Emmy-nominated filmmaker, she gave that up during COVID, allowing her to return to one of her first loves from childhood: painting. Her oil landscapes embrace the emotional energy of nature, and often showcase villages from around the globe. The gallery’s multimedia installation furthers the often ethereal evocations associated with her paintings.

Always With Light

The use of augmented reality (an interactive experience that combines the real world and computer-generated 3D content) allows gallery visitors to immerse themselves in her work.

“Instead of using a projector, you can use your phone to see these films I make and take the experience home with you. I create these films as a second piece of art that compliments my paintings and allows the viewer a chance to see one interpretation of the work,” Byrd explains. “Visitors are completely blown away when they see the multimedia installation that is a combination of paintings, movies, and technology all together.”
