This year’s walk has set a lofty, but achievable, goal: raising $125,000 for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. During the event, which is a part of the Alzheimer’s Association’s nationwide efforts, participants carry flowers symbolizing their commitment to curing the disease because, like flowers, they persist despite obstacles. Choose from route options including a half-mile and a two-mile path, both offering scenic views along the French Broad River. Attendees can enjoy live music and engaging activities in support of this charitable cause. » Carrier Park, 220 Amboy Road ; Saturday, 9 a.m.; free, fundraising encouraged; (828) 398-5780 ; www.act.alz.org
