The popular Scream! Race returns for its twelth year beginning at the Wilson Creek Recreation Area, with the route the same as in 2022, and approved by both runners and the US Forest Service. According to spokesperson Greg Duff, this event gets its moniker predominantly from the fact that “the original course was downhill, dropping 2100’ over the 13 miles.” Also, the early graphics were oriented around artist Edward Munch’s famous 1893 painting The Scream. The race cap is 350 runners, and the minimum age to participate is 18. There will be bottled water, Gatorade, bananas, and dill pickles at the finish line with a catered lunch and cool race swag to follow at Brown Mountain Beach Resort. Also, Hillman Beer will be providing a cold beer to those 21 and older.
