Twinkle Town: From wines to jewels, Dillsboro sparkles with an old-fashioned charm
A visit to Dillsboro during the holiday season is like walking into a Victorian Christmas village display. Centuries-old clapboard houses have been converted into cozy and inviting shops, and the depot still occasionally welcomes visitors fresh off the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. You can take in a grand view of the town, including a collection of galleries, home furnishing and clothing boutiques, gourmet food shops, and restaurants, from the porch of the stately Jarrett House inn. The shopping season kicks off with the annual Lights & Luminaries Festival (December 3-4 & 10-11), when 2,500 luminaries line the streets and stores remain open late. Start your town tour in the holiday spirit at Nancy Tut’s Christmas Shop and don’t pass up the Dillsboro Chocolate Factory when you need a pick-me-up.
