What’s your story? It’s a question that serves as a source of material for Asheville Playback Theatre, an acting group whose performances draw on the life experiences of the audience to create improvisational sketches. The mission is to foster a sense of community and build understanding among people by focusing on our common humanity says Raphael Peter, who founded APT in 1995. In November, the subject of humanity takes on a worldwide focus during the fifth annual Global Playback, an event Peter launched in 2005. Playback troupes from as many as 30 countries on six continents perform under a united theme for a week. This year’s topic focuses on humanitarian crises, a subject Peter hopes will unearth important stories that would otherwise go untold. Whether or not you intend to share a personal experience, the story of others’ lives may bring a greater perspective.
