Summer Sweethearts

Maggie and Michael both grew up in Charlotte, and met as middle schoolers while attending Charlotte Country Day School, but their love of the mountains brought them together. Every summer, the two practically lived at Grandfather Golf and Country Club with their families in Linville. Fond memories spent swimming in the lake, playing bingo, sneaking out after dark to have bonfires in the woods, shooting off fireworks, and making s’mores filled their childhoods. Eventually, Maggie and Michael realized that maybe they were more than just old friends.

After a surprise engagement and photoshoot at beloved Banner Elk restaurant, Artisanal, followed by a lakeside celebratory toast with both families, Maggie and Michael knew there was no better place to celebrate their love with family and friends than where it all began—back at the club in Linville. “It’s filled with some truly incredible people who work there—people whose smiles I looked forward to every summer—the same people who would help us make the biggest step of our adult lives, and help us pull off the wedding of our dreams. To the staff at Grandfather, I will be forever grateful,” says Maggie.

The wedding celebration was filled with meaningful touches, many that the couple hand-created themselves, including a golf-ball holder seating chart, Michael’s custom shoes featuring their crest which Maggie drew, as well as the invitations. Family photos of all the brides and grooms who came before, a special unity ceremony of weaving a vine together to honor the couple’s love of nature, and a spectacular flip during the first dance to “Come and Get Your Love”, helped make this couple’s special day truly unforgettable.
