Garden On!

What did you do during quarantine last spring? If you answered “more gardening than usual,” you weren’t alone. If you want to ramp up (or start) your garden game this go-round, Wild Abundance permaculture and homesteading school in Barnardsville offers a growing series of online classes geared toward cultivating the home garden.

Founded in 2009, the school offers classes in earth-based skills for all levels of experience, with a core staff of four and more than 20 instructors. The classes typically take place on the verdant seven-acre eco-homestead, but with the pandemic, many of them have shifted online, where reaching people who were stuck at home made perfect sense. 

On the gardening front, Wild Abundance’s set of classes costs $300 to $900, on a sliding scale (with partial scholarships available). Expert local gardeners do the instruction, in classes pegged to our bioregion. Beginners are welcome, and even seasoned home hoers might find helpful insights on everything from planning, soil, and tools to fertilizing, weeds, and seeds. Students also gain access to garden parties with specialists and lifetime access to all course materials.
