Words Matter

The Western NC Online Regional Poetry Contest, staged by the Caldwell Arts Council in Lenoir, celebrated its first annual go-round in October. Almost 150 poems were submitted by 79 writers from counties all over the region. Western Carolina University professor of English Catherine Carter (pictured) won first place overall for one of her poems and a merit award for this entry:
