Glamour on Board: Fashion from Titanic the Movie

02/09/2018 to 05/13/2018

In a twist of fate, Biltmore Estate’s George and Edith Vanderbilt never stepped foot on the Titanic, despite being scheduled to board when it departed April 14, 1912. Instead, they decided last-minute to sail its sister ship, the Olympic, a week earlier. One hundred and fifteen years later, visitors to their estate can see 45 costumes from the renowned cinematic retelling of the historic liner’s tragic voyage—and love between Rose and Jack—which won an Oscar for costume design. The exhibition’s fashions evoke the lifestyle of an era of “floating palaces,” on which travelers relished every opportunity to see and be seen in the wardrobes of the time. » Biltmore, 1 Lodge St.; daily, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; starting at $40, $20 youth; (800) 411-3812; www.biltmore.com
