Agricultural competitions are always a mainstay of the fair, but organizers hope they take center stage this year with the theme “Where Farm Meets Fun!” They’ve expanded the Got to Be NC livestock shows for state-raised animals and will highlight connections to local farmers across WNC throughout the event. Other new offerings, in addition to the staple fried foods and rides galore, include an interactive dinosaur exhibit and The Great Atlanta Puppet Show. Don’t worry, the favored Hogway Speedway Racing Pigs will be back, along with the Kenya Safari Acrobats. » WNC Ag Center, 1301 Fanning Bridge Rd.; Friday-Sunday, gate times vary; $9, $5 seniors & children ages six to 12, free children five & under; (828) 687-1414; www.wncagcenter.org
