Four weeks ago, in the hours after Hurricane Helene ravaged our region, three friends (L-R), Cooper Leist, Lance Buskey and Sam Iatarola, gathered and started working to get essential supplies out to their neighbors. They quickly mobilized the help of other friends from the outdoors, rescue and paddling communities, and the Hurricane Helene WNC initiative was born. More than 600 missions to 14 counties and a thousand volunteers later, we continue the important work of delivering vital resources to hard-hit and under-served areas across the region with the mission of building resilient communities in post-Helene Appalachia. -courtesy Helene Rebuild Collaborative
