Fire on the Mountain Blacksmith Fest

Fire on the Mountain Blacksmith Fest

This annual festival—a collaboration between Spruce Pine Main Street, Penland School of Craft, and the Toe River Arts Council—brings together metalsmith artists and appreciators for live demonstrations, forging competitions, lectures, and more, including the chance for the public to try their hands at blacksmithing. Of course, it also offers opportunities to purchase unique iron and steel wares, along with the tools of the trade. This year’s featured Master Blacksmith is Elizabeth Brim, a WNC teacher and artist known for using feminine imagery in her ironwork. In the adult Forge Off, teams will make iron flowers in her honor. » Downtown; Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; free; (828) 765-3008; www.facebook.com/fireonthemountainfestival
