Al Petteway & Amy White | High in the Blue Ridge
The mountains serve as inspiration for husband and wife Celtic/folk duet Al Petteway and Amy White. In their new album, High in the Blue Ridge, the couple musically illustrates landscapes along the Blue Ridge Mountains with songs like “The Drovers’ Road,” which features meandering melodies reminiscent of winding trails. Similarly, the structure and rhythm of “Up on Flat Top Mountain” slowly unfolds like the ridgeline path to a scenic vista.

Featuring Petteway on banjo and guitar and White on guitar, mandolin, Celtic harp, dulcimer, piano, and vocals, the couple, who’ve been working together since 1995, master fast riffs in songs like, “Craggy Pinnacle,” where Petteway showcases the speedy mountain twang of his banjo. The album’s more intimate side is revealed in songs like “The Last Waltz,” a more traditional tune where White embellishes the softer sounds of her mandolin. The album offers a soundtrack as compelling as the mountains themselves.
