Last Page - Jason Drake, Todd: “I wanted to paint things I could connect with and that other people could as well.”

Striving to foster connections between his artwork, audience, and himself, realist painter Jason Drake spends most mornings in his Todd-based studio with a brush capturing snapshots of Western North Carolina. An artist since childhood, Drake’s collection includes figurative, landscape, and still life works in oil, watercolor, and egg tempera paints. “The Promise of Spring” depicts the collision of decay and rebirth through the juxtaposition of a deteriorating building and young girl holding a daffodil, a flower Drake equates with the first breath of spring after a long winter. A member of the Blue Ridge Realists, Drake’s work will be on display April 27 through August 18, 2019 at the Hickory Museum of Art as part of a group exhibit celebrating the Blue Ridge Realists’ 50th anniversary. His work is also showcased at Blowing Rock Frameworks & Gallery. jasondrake.com
