Last Page - Elizabeth Porritt Carrington, Asheville: “Art is such a vital component to a fully lived life, and visual art for me is this wonderful nonverbal way of expression that can lead us to know something, understand something, or feel entirely connected in a new way.”

Hailing from County Clare, Ireland, and armed with a BFA from the Center for Creativity and Design in Galway, artist Elizabeth Porritt Carrington moved to Asheville in 2013, quickly becoming enmeshed in the city’s thriving arts scene. Following in the footsteps of famous artists who celebrated nature in their paintings, such as Monet, van Gogh, and O’Keeffe, Carrington literally immerses herself in the natural world, creating paintings that are uniquely ethereal, from a super-attuned awareness of her surroundings.

Carrington works in oil and acrylic, and has been incorporating a new type of natural paint, in addition to using various pigments and bronze dust. She grinds up semi-precious stones such as lapis lazuli or mica from nearby rivers in WNC, adding it to the paint.

In addition to her studio work, Carrington teaches workshops in eco-contemplative art and often works with the School of Living Arts (SOLA) in Asheville. Her paintings have been exhibited in Ireland, France, North Carolina, and Kazakhstan, among other locations. Though she lost her studio in the River Arts District, she has recently shown at Bender Gallery, with spring exhibits upcoming at The Outpost RADA satellite gallery in Asheville as well as inclusion in Asheville Strong: Celebrating Art and Community After Hurricane Helene at the Asheville Art Museum. elizabethcarringtonart.com
