Jimbo & Maddie

A surprise proposal at one of their favorite hiking spots in Blowing Rock followed by a perfect fall evening with family and friends set the wedding planning in motion for Jimbo and Maddie Barnes. The couple met while in college at UNC Chapel Hill and got engaged over Labor Day weekend during one of their many trips to the picturesque mountain town.“The mountains were such a big part of our lives growing up, and have been an integral part of our relationship from the beginning. My family and I are up in Blowing Rock every chance we can get, and Jimbo’s family are huge App State fans, and have spent many a night up in Boone over the years enjoying the mountains while cheering on their Mountaineers,” explains Maddie.

It only seemed fitting that the Blowing Rock Country Club would be the destination for these two to tie the knot. Their September wedding day arrived with a breeze off the lake and a medley of florals in pinks, oranges, whites and yellows, incorporating autumn foliage which complemented the bridesmaids’ self-chosen dresses in pretty fall hues. 

After a heartfelt ceremony exchanging tailored vows including everything they wished to promise one another, guests enjoyed cocktail hour with a signature drink, “The B’s Knees”, beer from a friend’s brewery in Raleigh, and an Asian inspired menu followed by a Millefoglie wedding cake the couple sprinkled with a dusting of powdered sugar together before cutting and serving.

Everyone danced the night away with a special guest saxophonist (the groom’s cousin) appearing alongside the band, before ending the night with an after-party at Town Tavern to sing their hearts out at karaoke.“Blowing Rock brings us so much joy both individually and collectively, and we were so excited to be able to share our slice of heaven with family members and friends,” gushes the happy bride.
