Awash in Color: Two brides create a wedding celebration bursting with style

Fond memories spent with family in the North Carolina mountains are what gave this Florida couple an undeniable love for the area, and eventually, each other. Back home in Jacksonville, Kayla works for the local fire department, and Brooke is a charge nurse in the emergency room where Kayla would often bring rescued patients. As the first responders started talking and getting to know one another, they realized they had both vacationed in the Blue Ridge with their families growing up. The couple’s engagement story includes not one but two proposals. During a family vacation to Banner Elk, Brooke proposed to Kayla at their favorite park with a photographer waiting in the wings to catch it all on film, and then once again during a family photoshoot in the snow, Kayla surprised Brooke with her own proposal captured by the same photographer—a testament to their compatibility.

Kayla frequently visited Beech Mountain and came upon the stunning, white-washed Overlook Barn venue one morning while on a walk. She immediately knew that one day she’d be married in that barn. After sharing the location with her fiancée, Brooke also instantly fell in love. The couple knew they wanted to share their special day with close friends and family in beautiful Western North Carolina, which they consider to be their second home. Overlook Barn was just the right fit for the couple and their loved ones.

With a kaleidoscope of bright and bold colors, lush autumn florals, and sentimental touches—like presenting their 4 year old son with his own wedding band during the ceremony—these women celebrated their love for the mountains and each other under blue Carolina skies.
