After several years of missed encounters (Kyle attended college just 20 minutes from Michelle’s hometown), this Charleston couple finally met when Kyle was a resident physician and Michelle was a nurse at the same hospital. 

Missed connections went on for a few months with their lives keeping them busy with work and travel, but after about date two or three, Michelle had a feeling he was the one. Many dates, adventures, and two dogs later, they got engaged during a beach picnic with family and friends hiding nearby, where the groom, a “terrible secret-keeper”, nearly spilled his own beans from nervous excitement.

When it came time for wedding plans, Michelle, who grew up in New Hampshire, always dreamt of a fall mountain wedding. The couple stumbled across Overlook Barn and toured in the winter, where Michelle says, “It checked off every single box on our wish list, even though we hadn’t seen it in all its fall glory yet!”

The October wedding was a complete labor of love with family and friends. Michelle hand-embroidered all of the floral table numbers, vintage books were sourced from her grandmother’s house, the dessert table was a thrift find hauled all the way from Charleston, and the dessert display was styled with cake plates thrifted by the groom’s dad.

Michelle and Kyle poured signature scent candles that were scattered around the reception, the escort cards were handmade and pressed with wax seals and styled on thrifted shutters that Kyle painted and repurposed. Michelle’s uncle and godfather became ordained and married them, and Michelle’s sister and brother-in-law even performed one of the songs from their band, which had the entire dance floor going wild before a send-off snack of hot apple cider and cider donuts. 

The best part of their day? “We absolutely loved our first look and private vow exchange on the boulders! It was a quiet, special moment for just us two to first see one another. We feel so fortunate to have been married at Overlook Barn and are so excited to have such a beautiful town to visit for anniversary trips!”
