Adam and Brian met as most modern couples in New York City do—online. Adam had just started medical school and Brian was working in the city. Between classes and tests, Adam managed to meet Brian, and they set off on a whirlwind of dates scattered across the city.

The couple had enjoyed vacationing in the Bahamas for years, so Adam knew it would be the perfect place to propose. Under the guise of a simple trip with their closest friends, Adam gathered memories of their time together on postcards written with personal messages to Brian, which friends and family handed to him as he approached the beach. Under a purple sky sunset, Adam proposed and Brian said yes.

The grooms knew they wanted to have their wedding in the mountains, but were unsure of where exactly. After scouting a few different locations, Adam thought to look closer to where his parents were married in Winston-Salem. “We fell in love with the High Country, and as soon as Brian visited the White Crow with Adam’s parents, it was fate. The sweeping views, small-town charm, and southern hospitality won us over!” says Adam.

Besides enjoying absolutely perfect fall mountain weather, the grooms’ most memorable part of the day was the time they set aside immediately after the ceremony for themselves, called the yichud, which is an important part of a Jewish ceremony that symbolizes reflection and encourages the couple to be fully engaged with each other in the start of their new marriage.

“We adapted a Jewish ceremony with the help of our officiants— one of our best friends and Brian’s cousin. It included thoughtful reflections on our relationship from close friends and family as well as our personal vows. And, we of course had to break the glass!” remarks Adam.

Burnt oranges and golds set amid the natural harvest colors of the season provided a backdrop to the event that felt classy but cozy, as “our relationship is built on moments of connection and intimacy between ourselves and those we love,” the couple notes.
