Discount Vegan Dining: The Asheville Vegan Society savings card
Share this

Asheville Vegan Society hosts regular community gatherings.

The Asheville Vegan Society (AVS) is determined to help make this slice of North Carolina a healthier, kinder, more sustainable, and more ethical place for all animals to live. The nonprofit has been promoting the benefits of veganism since 2005, recognizing that a continued presence in the community encourages an acceptance and respect for the lifestyle.

To ensure vegan food options are available to everyone, the group annually offers Veg Discount Cards. Good for one year from the date of purchase, a card costs just $15 and can be used at numerous restaurants and retailers, as well as for services like nutrition coaching, pet care, and spa treatments. “The cards are sold mainly to vegans who want to support vegan-friendly businesses and save money while visiting restaurants and businesses in Asheville and the surrounding areas,” explains AVS volunteer Sandi Hefner, a passionate vegan since 1994.

“We approach businesses who are vegan-friendly or offer vegan options to join our card program,” she continues. Those willing to provide cardholders with a small discount (typically 10 to 20 percent) get listed as partners on the AVS website. This growing database of participants has reached nearly 50, including favorites like The Smokin’ Onion, Moon & Back Bakery, AppalachCream, Rosetta’s Kitchen, Simple Cafe & Juice Bar, and Plant. The list also extends to grocery stores such as West Village Market and select businesses in Greenville, South Carolina.

In addition to drawing interest in the growing local vegan network, AVS’s Veg Discount Cards help offset the costs of running the volunteer group, which offers mentoring and support, community engagement, social events, and more.
