Featured Artist, Tracey McCracken Palmerl
Moss Haven, felt, 28" x 23"

Tracey McCracken Palmer has only recently found her true calling as an artist. A native of Haywood County, she painted and drew for most of her life but turned to felt in 2013, when she began creating detailed landscapes using the material. “It’s perfect for me,” she says. “Now the felt needle is my paintbrush and the wool is my pigment.” Moss Haven, like all of Palmer’s pieces, began with many layers of colored wool to build up the scene. The process of felting binds the fibers and condenses the layers. She then employs freehand needle felting to create the fine details, such as the fox. A member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, Palmer’s work can be found at the guild’s Biltmore Village gallery in Asheville, at Twigs and Leaves Gallery in Waynesville, and at the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands, October 20-23. www.bonnieblinkstudio.com
