Lazy Hiker Brewing Company

Sitting a mere 14 miles off the Appalachian Trail, Franklin’s first brewery is aptly named. The 15-barrel brewhouse and taproom, located in the former town hall and fire department buildings, draws thru-hikers and locals alike. After a day spent outdoors, enjoy Lazy Hiker’s Inaugural IPA, a top seller with floral, earthy, and spiced undertones. 188 W. Main St.; (828) 349-2337; www.lazyhikerbrewing.com

Haywood Smokehouse

With rave reviews in Waynesville, this smokehouse opened its Dillsboro location in June, taking over the erstwhile Dillsboro Smokehouse. The barbecue joint allows diners to take a trip around the country without leaving town, serving a variety of styles such as Southern pork shoulder and chicken, Texas beef brisket, Memphis ribs, California tri-tip, and Florida smoked mullet. 403 Haywood Rd.; (828) 631-9797;
