The Art of Poetry
Calling All Poets
The Art of Poetry at HMA
Beginning June 16, 2012, from 2 to 3:30 PM, the Hickory Museum of Art will conduct an ekphrastic (poetry about art) walking tour of its ongoing exhibits on the third Saturdays of June, September, December, and March.
The public is invited to view exhibits on the Museum’s three floors, and to write one or more poems based on the work in the exhibits. To be included in The Art of Poetry tour, the poem(s) should be submitted to Scott Owens via email (asowens1@yahoo.com). Owens, a widely-published local poet and creative writing instructor, will work with HMA staff members to select as many as 20 poems for each tour. Deadlines for submission of poetry will be the first Saturday of each even month. For 2012, those deadlines are June 2, September 1, and December 1.
Poets whose work is selected for the tour will be invited to read their poem in front of the artwork on which it was based. The tours are free of charge as is the Hickory Museum of Art.
Current exhibitions include: Waking Up with Van Gogh, From Billy to Wiili,Discover Folk Art: Unique Visions by Southern Self-Taught Artists, and more.
