Arte De Cuba!
Arte De Cuba!
Black Mountain’s summer heats up as the Monte Vista Hotel presents a multi-weekend arts event celebrating Cuban culture through art, cuisine, cocktails, music and discussion. The Monte Vista Hotel will kick off Arte de Cuba! on Friday, July 20, and continue the event weekends through Sunday, August 12, 2012. Arte de Cuba! will display the perseverance, hope, and resourcefulness of the Cuban people despite their many struggles, while offering a glimpse of the current generation of Cuban artists whose work explores not only the complex history of Cuba, but also universal themes of censorship, race, gender, and identity. This is rare opportunity to see artists’ works like Alejandrina Cue and Dange Contes, both of Havanna, who amongst others have not been fortunate enough to show work within or exhibit outside of Cuba since the 90s. Join us as we celebrate the rich artistic vitality of Cuba with four to six Cuban visual artists featured that include works of quilted folk-art, mixed-media collage, acrylics and oils on canvas. Enjoy, over this 4-weekend event, musical performances, paneled discussions, a film viewing, storytelling and photographs documenting Cuba's history.
